Swim Meet 101

Important Information About Volunteering

It is mandatory that all families be available to volunteer at swim meets in which their swimmer(s) participate(s). To run a home meet, it requires a minimum of 30 volunteers. Unless you make special arrangements with the Volunteer Coordinator, you will be expected to volunteer if needed. See more about volunteer jobs, assignments, and expectations on below and in the team handbook.

Meet Basics

Our six Tuesday evening meets that your swimmer will attend are called dual meets. A dual meet is a swim meet between two teams: the “home” team and the “away” or traveling team. These meets last approximately 3-4 hours (including warm-up). There are no entry fees. Swimmers are expected to attend all meets unless otherwise noted by the parent/adult in accordance with the processes outlined in the “Meet Attendance” section of the team handbook. Coaching staff will decide jointly on the individual and relay events assigned to each swimmer, as well as the heat and lane assignments. Swimmers are limited to a maximum of three (3) scored individual and two (2) scored relay events per meet.

At our home meets and most away meets, food and drinks are available for purchase. Please support concessions, as the proceeds go to offset swim team costs.

*Please note the Tarheel Swimming Association conduct rules, as violation of these rules can mean penalties imposed on our team and impact meet performance or even lead to meet suspension.

  • Home Meets: arrival time is 4:45 PM for set-up and 5:00 PM warm-up.
  • Away Meets: arrival time is typically 5:00 PM. Coaching staff or the Volunteer Coordinator will send an email announcing arrival time, location, and job assignments.
