Important Swim Meet Updates for Meredith Townes, Coachman's Trail, and TSA Championship
1. Meredith Townes
Good afternoon Racquetfish, families, and friends...
Sorry it took me a bit to get this announcement out, but let me get to it and address the elephant in the room. Last night's swim meet against Meredith Townes was set to be rescheduled to tonight due to us being stormed out and delayed multiple times. However, Meredith Townes informed us that they wouldn't have enough parents, volunteers, and swimmers returning in order to resume where we left off. Which in turn led to them deciding to forfeit the swim meet.
Personally, I feel finishing off the meet like this is a bit of a bummer, the result is anticlimactic, and the forfeited victory is a little bitter sweet. I know for a fact that we had a shot to win this meet, and if our swimmers kept doing what they were already doing, then we would've won no doubt. It's unfortunate that our kiddos worked so hard and couldn't even prove it by making our opponents eat their bubbles. On the bright side though, we did technically win! A forfeit from them works in our favor, and counts towards our season's victories! When a team forfeits, the score in the system defaults to 1-0, in the winning team's favor. And last I checked, when the meet had its first delay, the score was 32-31 in our favor. So really, if you stopped there, we did win by one point, as if the forfeit never happened!
At the end of the day, a win is a win is a win. Nobody is going to look back and wonder how or why it happened. Regardless, we now have our second win of the season, and nobody can take that away from us! How I see it, the rain, thunder, and lightning spared Meredith Townes from the wrath of the Racquetfish! We were hungry after what happened at JCC, so last night we would've devoured. But now, we didn't get to eat as we should have, so we're starved. We have to take this energy and anticipation into Coachman's Trail next week as a team, and finish off the season strong with a big fat dub!
2. Coachman's Trail
Speaking of Coachman's Trail, as usual the deadline to RSVP your swimmers is Friday, July 10th, at 11:30pm. We still have a handful of swimmers that are undeclared, and we're going to need all hands on deck in order to pull off a win. Coachman's Trail is a very strong, disciplined, and fleshed out team. They've got swimmers to push us to our absolute limit, so if you can make it, please do! I want to try and avoid having to double check entries last minute.
This is our last and final dual meet of the season, which also happens to be at home. So let's finish proud with our heads held high, and get everybody signed up by the deadline, including jobs for volunteers! There are several positions still needing to be filled, but you've got a couple days to figure everything out. Don't let it sit though, the sooner we're ready, the sooner we can organize a gameplan and kick everything off without a hitch. Last night's meet was borderline flawless in terms of attendance, check ins, deck changes, and setup. I really appreciate everybody's efforts!
3. TSA Championship
We're not done yet! After the meet against Coachman's Trail, but before our Closing Awards Banquet, we have the TSA Championship meet. This meet is 100% optional, but boy is it a blast! Christy, Marissa, and some others have already made countless announcements and have backed up the claims of how fun it really is. However, like all good things, it isn't free. But it also isn't expensive either! While expense can be subjective, I think as members of RRC you'll be just fine.
To avoid sounding redundant and spewing all the same information that's already been put out there on our SwimTopia news tab, I'll just highlight the very important parts. Due to the inclement weather yesterday setting everybody back a bit, the deadline to register for the TSA Champs meet has been pushed back to Friday, July 10th, at 12am midnight. Originally, the deadline was tonight at midnight, but now it's pretty much the same time as the RSVP deadline for our meet against Coachman's Trail. Once you register (which you can do on SwimTopia), you get to pick the events that your kid(s) swim! That only makes sense considering the meet is optional, you're paying, and we just want them to have fun.
Please please please read the other announcements regarding the TSA Champs meet! I'm also going to be going around practice today, tomorrow, and Friday in order to wrangle in as many swimmers as we can for this special event. I would love to show up with a huge squad and show the other teams that we're more than just a tennis club with a fun little swim team for the summer. Our swimmers are the pride and joy of this team, they are excellent athletes, and I know we can show out!
4. Conclusion
Thank you all so much for weathering the storm yesterday, putting up with my announcement essays, and contributing to this team! As always, I'm around for any questions, comments, or concerns about yesterday's meet, the next meet, or TSA Champs. There's a lot of information floating around, so if you're at all confused please don't hesitate to reach out! I'm getting ready for practice as I type this, so hopefully I'll see you all there, and we can have some fun to celebrate! Thanks again :)
